Weddings & Dogs

With the new season being around the corner….that means Wedding Time!
Lots of people got engaged this past year that I know and I absolutely love weddings. Anyways I was looking at people who incorporate their dogs into the wedding and it seems like a pretty interesting concept. I was watching a wedding show the other day in which the bride actually spent more on her dog’s outfits for the wedding than the groom did on his tux (way overboard).

Here are a few things to consider:

•Make sure someone is available to assist your dog in preparing before the wedding as well as accommodating to bathroom breaks, food & water as well as being taken to the appropriate place after the ceremony (dog daycare or back to your home).

•Your venue(s) make sure to run this by them and see if they allow dogs in the venue and to take part even if it is just for a short while. This is totally up to their discretion unless it is an outdoor wedding.

•Put together a plan as to whom your dog will walk with down the aisle or if he/she can walk unassisted off leash around your entire guest without distractions. Figure out what role your dog will play and whether they will go alone, with the flower girl or ring bearer or with a bridesmaid or groomsmen…..decisions decisions.

Ring Bearer

•Don’t feel obligated to buy a mini tux or dress for your dog, it’s your wedding day and you can personalize everything as much as you can. Think for your dog to wear a collar with matching set of flowers (like your decor) adorning the collar. You can also get custom leashes, a bow tie or match him/her to your wedding party.

•Staying on the subject of the attire, if you plan on having your four legged friend be you ring bearer DO NOT put the actual rings with them because there is always the chance of them being lost. I know that many best men also run the same chance of misplacing these items as well but at least they can TELL you where it is or where it’s been forgotten :)

•Be conscious of your guests and any allergies or fears they may have towards your dog.

•Put into your to do list to have your pooch get groomed or have a bath – after all you want them to look just as great as the rest of the attendees they will be in photos.

•Practice practice practice the walk with your dog and if applicable bring your dog to the rehearsal as well to get them familiar with the venue so that it is not all brand new to them on the day of.

Congrats to all the newlyweds!
