New Jerky Bars from @Dogswell

Happy Hips are low glycemic, super premium, functional food and treats for pets!  DOGSWELL  recently launched new packaging recipes for its line of Jerky Bars, a healthy snack that helps maintain eyes, skin and coat. Jacob got a very special package today to try 2 flavors. Salmon & Veggies and Lamb & Veggies.

The new Jerky Bars are made with 85% meat and 15 % veggies with added health benefits and ingredients including Flaxseed, Vitamins or Glucosamine and Chondroitin. DOGSWELL products do NOT include any grains, soy or added sugars!

Fresh flavors include:

Chicken & Veggies
Lamb & Veggies
Salmon & Veggies
Turkey & Veggies

Before I even opened the package he knew what was it!  Jacob is a notorious picky eater and will often spit out treats he doesn’t like.

He has done that in many pet stores. It smells like jerky and is moist and healthy!  A great way to get vitamins into dogs over 5 years old.

The Cool Puppy StyleGuide @Givebones @FrostyBowlz

After Toronto and Tokyo Fashion Weeks, fashion is on everyone’s mind. Here are three easy ways to update your pet’s wardrobe before the Spring Equinox in a few days.

1.GiveBones – http://givebones.com/shop/

Givebones has the most adorable and colorful collars for a good cause and a good price. National charitable pet company Givebones helps decrease the number of homeless and euthanized pets in the United States each year. Purchasing just ONE Givebones collar saves THREE dogs by keeping them warm and fed in a shelter for one extra day, rescuing them from euthanization. Givebones gives back 10 percent of sales to shelters and rescue groups across the country. They come in 4 sizes XS, S, M, L and in 6 fun colors.
This is my favorite! The Funny Bones Turquoise. It is sturdy, comfy, and stylish!

2. FrostyBowlz – frostybowlz.com

Dogs like to drink cool to cold water. Once water sits out all day, it gets lukewarm and your dog won’t want to drink it. This is a handy bowl that you can start using in spring all the way through the dog days of summer to keep your pup hydrated and cool. It is made of high-quality, heavy-gauge stainless-steel bowl with freezable, nontoxic core provides icy cold refreshment for 8 to 12 hours, even on the hottest days. Plate rim can be filled with water to form an ant barrier too! The bowl can also be used for food. Both plate and bowl have nonskid bottoms. Dishwasher-safe, awesome!

3. Dog Portrait – http://www.etsy.com/shop/MaritzaHernandezArt?ref=seller_info

Why not get a custom piece of art work for your dog and you to enjoy? There are numerous Etsy artists can whip up a really cool collage that looks just like your pup. With all your spring cleaning, throw out the old junk you don’t need and add a piece of art!

PetShoppe from @DuaneReade

For our Canadian readers who are not familiar with Duane Reade, it is similar to Shoppers Drug Mart but in the US. They carry a ton of product from beauty, household, pharma and everyday needs. They also have a pet section!  They have great toys, accessories and even retractable leash (with poo bags!) and a flashlight.

Our friends at Duane Reade sent us 4 products to test out and Jacob is more than thrilled!

His favorite of course is the Pet Shoppe Ultra Durable Chew Ring Dog Toy.

Can’t wait to use the retractable leash and the flashlight at night.

You can see more http://www.walgreens.com which is a part of Duane Reade now!

Easy Walk with @Coleash!

It is probably accurate to say that 90% of dog products are invented by dog owners who thought:

Wouldn’t it be nice to have ____________.

The Co-Leash was founded in 1999 and has achieved many awards over the years. One were most proud of is The Co-leash being used on the military dogs overseas with our troops protecting our freedoms on the front lines.  It is essentially a collar and leash in one so it makes walking your dog or training your dog easier!  Since Jacob really enjoys walking off leash, this is a great tool to have.

The leash easily extends by a velcro attachment that is perfect for crossing the street.

It is glow in the dark and also 3M reflective. The cute star patterns make it fun.

The Coleash Kryptaglow Dog Collar comes in a variety of colors and we will be using ours a lot! The Coleash features a short control leash which neatly wraps around the collar and attaches with strong velcro. Its made with super strong nylon, a Big Dog Buckle for added strength, and wielded D-rings that can be used in conjunction with a regular leash as well.

It retails for $23.99 and can be found on http://coleash.com

Dog Friends @GetWaggit

What a great concept! I am always moving to new apartments and making friends with other dog owners in the neighborhood. Now with waggit – I am make even more dog friends. YAY!

It’s the Holiday Season and that means travel. Thanksgiving is over but Christmas and New Years are right around the corner. For dog owners, traveling doesn’t just include planes, trains, and automobiles but also kennels, sitters, and walkers. In New York, a reputable kennel can cost upwards of $60 a night, and professional pet sitters can be even more expensive. That can mean an additional expense of $180 or more! But there is an alternative. Instead of dropping off your beloved pet at a kennel or begging your friends to help out, there’s a new online community that let’s pet parents connect with people in their New York neighborhood and exchange dog sitting favors. It’s called Waggit.

Waggit helps pet owners save money while building a network of local friends. It’s free to join and is a great alternative to paying for costly professional services or boarding your pet. Even if you don’t need a dog sitter, use Waggit to spot familiar faces from the dog park and break the ice to set up doggie play dates, arrange a shared dog walker or offer up day care.

Waggit, founded by Audrey Tan, is a NYC based tech startup and overall winner of the Nov 2011 Startup Weekend competition. Thank you Audrey!! :)

Travel Easy with @DogVacay

Pet owners are undoubtedly obsessive about their furry friends. In fact, 81% of dog owners consider Fido a member of the family.  And yet, according to the APPA’s 2011-2012 National Pet Owners Survey, 75% of dog owners don’t take their pet with them when they travel.

Anyone with a dog will tell you the dread that comes with putting their dog away in a kennel cage for a week. Or the hassle of trying to find a pet-friendly hotel.

With the holidays coming, travel is set to see it’s standard bump of 54% for Thanksgiving and 23% during Christmas/New Years, and the obsessive 62% of us who own pets will be faced with the tough decision of what to do with our non-human family members.

A survey from TripAdvisor revealed that over 6 million dog owners just give up and don’t travel because of their pet, and 21% of those who do travel with their pet admit to having smuggled their pet into a hotel room.

This is the first year there’s a solution, and it’s thanks to the popularity of social networks like Facebook that have made it so easy for people with like-minds to find each other.

DogVacay is the new online community of qualified home dog boarding professionals that gives travelers deluxe accommodations for Fido if he needs to be left behind, or gives travelers a nearby home to leave their dogs if their hotel isn’t pet-friendly.

It’s like AirBNB for your dog! Check it out on http://dogvacay.com/

Bits and Pieces of Love: Art by Samuel Price

West Coast artist, Samuel Price has the perfect holiday gift for pet lovers worldwide. If you have a dog or know dog lovers like me, you know they have tons and tons of dog things and their lives and schedule’s pretty much revolve around their dog!  Price creates custom portraits by assembling hundreds of hand-cut, recycled magazine squares onto canvas.

He takes photography that clients send him as a reference point and go from there. They are such beautiful pieces of art and they would be a great piece for a home, office or vet clinic! His goal is to capture the individual personality and spirit of the animals featured. I would love to get one of Jacob!

Artist Samuel Price

Each pixelated collage takes between 6-12 weeks to create and range between $700-$4000 depending on size and complexity of the piece.

@CanadaPooch Cozy Caribou

My motto is always CUTEST in CHARGE!  Guess who is in charge in our household? Jacob of course!  Our friends at Canada Pooch sent us the brand spanking new Cozy Caribou Hoodie and we are so in love! As the cooler weather approach, walking your dog everyday is still something we look forward to. But when we pull on scarves and sweaters, don’t forget about your 4-legged friend! Dogs can get colds too and especially if your dog is an indoor dog like Jacob – A sweater is 100% necessary.

What I love about the Canada Pooch products is that they are so WELL MADE. Just by looking at these products, you can tell the thought and knowledge put into designing it. The colors are gender friendly for any dog and they are beautiful and oh so “Canadian” with a Roots appeal.

The tip of the hood is a easy snap button so it doesn’t bunch up or swing around. The bottom of the stomach part has also 2 easy snap buttons to make sure it stays in place. The lining is SO super soft like a teddybear (Sherpa) and way better and warmed than fleece that you find in most coats. My favorite part is the ribbing on the sleeve and stomach.

The Ultimate Cozy Experience: ultra-soft cotton exterior & Sherpa lining
New relaxed cottage-style logo
Functional pocket for treat and bag storage
Size-adjustable Velcro closure and ribbing
Machine washable
Leash / harness slit
Sleeves for sizes 10-16
Available in sizes 10-26
Colours: Grey, black and red
